Can an email that was deleted from a work email address a few years ago be retrieved?

The email was sent to my work email address a few years ago, I deleted it at the time as it was insulting but am taking my ex employer to a tribunal and wondered if the email can be retrieved any way?

Sure it can. If your employer has the server set up to archive the old emails, it creates a copy of all the emails that it receives and sends. All they have to do is search a specific time frame and they can pull it up. That's only if they have there server set-up that way.
Reply:Most firms only keep backups for a year then overwrite them. We once took our system down and entered a date that was one week in the past and managed to get some deleted mail back. This is only because the segment of the disk that stored the mail item had not been overwritten during that week. Hand on heart I'd say your chances were slim to impossible.
Reply:...unless you have the hard drive entered as evidence and have its contents recovered by a reputable company. Go figure?
Reply:No chance, that's long gone. You should have printed it at the time! Hind sight is a wonderful thing!
Reply:No, once it is gone, that's it.
